Dan Mitchell Allison, b. 1953, exhibitions 1975- 2009, collections, bibliography, and curating 1974 - 2021

In the late 1980's Allison received critical acclaim for his printmaking, receiving the prestigious 1987 Grand Prix award for the 17th Biennial of Graphic Art sponsored by the Ljubljana Museum of Contemporary Art in the former Republic of Yugoslavia. The artist's award winning, three panel collagraphic triptych, "Between Heaven and Earth,” was selected from more than 1800 entries submitted from 57 countries. Since its inception in 1953, recipients of Ljubljana Graphic Biennial award honor include Joan Miro, Karl Appel, Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, Frank Stella, James Rosenquist, David Hockney, Victor Vasarely, Sol Lewitt, Joe Tilson, Edward Ruscha, David Salle, Susan Rothenberg, A.R. Penck, Mimmo Paladino and John Baldessari among others.

Allison first made his first mark on the art world in the late 1970's with his instantly recognizable aquatint etchings, created through a revolutionary one-plate, three-color etching processes the artist is still known for today.  In September 1998 a retrospective of Allison's prints, paintings and mixed media work was mounted by the newly opened Museum of Viejo in Belgrade, Yugoslavia after the works had been shown at venues in Tokyo, Los Angeles, and New York.

In 1994 Dan M. Allison became director of Barbara Davis Gallery at Pennzoil Place, and in 2000 established the Texas Print Collaborative at Redbud Gallery in Houston where he would share his graphic techniques regionally, working with artists Terrill James, Sharon Kopriva, and Richard Stout, and nationally collaborating with artists Nancy Reddin Kienholz, James Magee, and Robert Rauschenberg. In 2008 Allison opened the Nau-haus Gallery in Houston’s Heights district, and then in 2011 opened d. m. allison gallery on Houston's Gallery Row producing more than 100 exhibitions at the two locations before closing in 2016.

Allison served on the boards of Houston's Women's Caucus for the Arts (1984), Lawndale Art and Performance (1988), The Art League of Houston (1987), Art Lies Magazine (1995), and curated public art exhibitions including the 1984 Show for the National Organization of Women at One and Two Houston Center. He was a founding board member of Art Lies Magazine attaining their 501-C3 Status n 1988, and Artist Rescue Mission in 1993 raising funds and delivering relief supplies to the artists and communities where he had been worked, lived, and exhibited in war torn Sarajevo and Yugoslavia.

After more than 75 solo gallery and museum exhibitions including venues at the PARCO galleries in Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagasaki Japan (1990), and solo gallery exhibitions in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, Torino Italy, and Berlin Germany, Dan M Allison’s ArtFlow art advisory archiving, provides artists and and collectors services offering data management, research, estimates, photography, and general art services in Houston Texas.
